Briefly: Happy to report that one of my favorite films out of this year's Cannes Film Festival this year has distribution and will be getting released soon (hopefully later this year). Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to Jodorowsky's Dune doc, directed by Frank Pavich, telling the story of Chilean auteur Alejandro Jodorowsky's adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune that was almost made in the 70s. No release date is set yet, but it's great to hear that it has been acquired and will be getting a release from the always reputable Sony Classics. The tale of Jodorowsky and his Dune is a fascinating trip through creativity and imagination, a story about the relentless pursuit of a dream, and the necessity of art. An excellent doc.
In pre-production for over two years, Jodorowsky's Dune adaptation was to star his own 12 year old son alongside Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, David Carradine and even Salvador Dali, set to a musical score by Pink Floyd and art-design by some of the most provocative talents of the era, including H.R. Giger and Jean 'Moebius' Giraud. All of this and more is documented in the film. We'll let you know when they set a release.
