If there's one positive that Lady Gaga fans can take from her decision to cancel a June 3 concert in Indonesia, perhaps it's this: at least she'll have more time to work on her album.

Yes, though she's currently in the midst of a two-year world tour, Gaga is already hard at work on the follow-up to 2011's Born This Way and, according to her co-manager, she's going to push the boundaries even further this time around (which is sure to please those Indonesian Islamic groups).

"There's a lot of work to come, [I'm] very excited about it," Vincent Herbert revealed in a new interview with website That Grape Juice. "[It's] just [an] insane, great record. She's on tour right now, but it's just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her. We're doing it on the road right now, so it's a little hard, but it's going to be great."

Herbert wouldn't reveal specifics — tentative release date, title, who she's been working with, etc. — about the new album, but the news that she's recording on the road is actually in keeping with the way she began work on Born This Way, when standout tracks like "Marry The Night" took shape with producer Fernando Garibay during her long-running Monster Ball Tour.

"I just kind of got on the American leg of the tour ... and she goes, 'I want to write another song that can define where I'm at with this album and my life,' " Garibay told MTV News last year. "I go back to the studio bus; I'm just working on parts ... and then, two hours later, she comes offstage and she goes, 'Do you have something to play me?' And I go, 'I do, actually.'

"So I played her the instrumental for 'Marry the Night,' and she goes, 'Open up a mic,' " Garibay continued. "She starts laying down the whole song, like, off the cuff ... right off the stage, using the energy of that crowd and going into the studio, it was amazing. I can't compare it to anything."

ATLANTA (AP) - Freddie Freeman wasn't surprised his new glasses were a big hit. He just feared his swing might be rusty.

Freeman homered and drove in three runs in his return to the lineup to help the Atlanta Braves recover after blowing a five-run lead and beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-7 on Wednesday night.

Freeman, who had missed four straight starts because of vision problems, was elated about receiving his new sports glasses before the game. He was so excited he rushed to the batting cage early Wednesday afternoon to test the glasses before taking off the shorts and polo shirt he wore to the stadium.

The first baseman broke out of a slump with three hits: his eighth homer in the first, a run-scoring double in the third and run-scoring single in the eighth.

"I was surprised about how I hadn't played in a few days and was able to have my swing like that," Freeman said. "I wasn't worried about the glasses. I knew they were good."

Following the game, the Braves optioned rookie shortstop Tyler Pastornicky to Triple-A Gwinnett. Andrelton Simmons, who is hitting .292 at Double-A Mississippi, was called up and is expected to take over the starting job.

General manager Frank Wren said Simmons, who is known for his defense, has "special talents" at shortstop.

Pastornicky is hitting .248 with seven errors.

The Braves, who snapped an eight-game losing streak on Tuesday night, gave up a 5-0 lead, then scored three runs in the sixth. Brian McCann's two-run single highlighted the rally.

McCann, who had a two-run homer in the first, drove in four runs.

Jonny Venters (3-2) recorded the last out of the sixth. Craig Kimbrel earned his 15th save.

"We went through a stretch," Freeman said of the losing streak. "Everybody goes through a stretch in the season. Hopefully that was our longest one. ... It's how you minimize those and we bounced back like a winning team does."

After Freeman's homer, Tim Hudson and other teammates made circles in front of their eyes, pretending to wear glasses, as they welcomed him to the dugout. Freeman said before the game he didn't care if he looked different in glasses.

"I can see and that's all that matters," he said.

Hudson said Freeman "came in and did what he did. He plays great first base and he's some of our thump in the lineup."

The Braves broke a 5-all tie with three runs on four hits off Mark Rzepczynski (0-3) in the sixth. Jack Wilson's double drove in Jose Constanza, who reached first on his third hit and moved to second on a wild pitch.

Wilson was caught in a run-down between third and home on Michael Bourn's grounder, but he kept the play going long enough for Bourn to advance to second. Following an intentional walk to Martin Prado, McCann drove in Bourn and Prado with a single for an 8-5 lead.

The Cardinals scored two runs off Eric O'Flaherty in the eighth off Shane Robinson's sacrifice fly and Carlos Beltran's infield single.

The Braves added two runs in the eighth off Jason Motte, who set up the inning with walks to Eric Hinske and Bourn. Dan Uggla drove in one with a sac fly and Freeman finished the scoring by knocking in Bourn.

"The bottom line is seven runs should win a lot of games," said Cardinals manager Mike Matheny. "We're not doing what we need to do to give us a chance. Some adjustments have to be made."

Atlanta led 5-0 before the Cardinals managed their first hit.

McCann hit a two-run homer in the first. One out later, Freeman cleared the center-field wall off Kyle Lohse.

With two outs in the third and Uggla on first base following his single, Freeman hit a high pop fly into the wind, blowing in from left field.

Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday sprinted toward the infield but couldn't catch up as the wind blew the ball away from the outfield, dropping in shallow left field for a double that scored Uggla.

Constanza added a run-scoring single.

Rafael Furcal led off the fourth with a single for the Cardinals' first hit. Holliday drove in Furcal with a one-out single.

Tyler Green's two-run, bases-loaded single was the big hit in the Cardinals' four-run sixth off Hudson. Holliday and Daniel Descalso also had RBI singles.

Hudson gave up five runs on six hits in 5 2-3 innings.

"I'm not happy with my outcome personally," Hudson said.

"It seems like the last couple of games every baserunner I've had has scored."

Lohse allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings.

Right fielder Skip Schumaker left the game after the sixth inning with tightness in his right hamstring.

The situation where I see this most commonly occur is in discussions of Latin America. I find that a lot of writers, and probably most of the general public, are usually a little vague on definitions when talking or writing about Latin America.

As both an editor and a general reader, I?ve seen numerous instances where the term Latin America is used interchangeably with South America. However, they?re not interchangeable. Not all of South America is Latin America, and Latin America is considerably larger than just South America.

Broadly defined, Latin America is those parts of the North and South American continents where they speak a Latin-based language. Again, that brings in another element of potential confusion. It?s not just Spanish, but also includes Portuguese and French. So one should not use ?Spanish-speaking countries? in lieu of ?Latin America,? because Portuguese (official language of Brazil) and French are part of the mix.

Latin America includes Mexico, which is a substantial part of North America. It also includes parts of the Caribbean, but certainly not all of it: for example, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti are part of Latin America, but English-speaking Jamaica, Nassau, or Barbados are not.

Latin America also includes most of Central America, which is not actually a separate entity; it?s just the tail end of North America. Belize, however, though it?s part of Central America, is not part of Latin America. It?s part of the British Commonwealth.

Most of South America is Latin America, but don?t use Latin America to mean South America, and don?t assume all of South America is part of Latin America. The official language of Suriname is Dutch. In Guyana, the population is of East Indian, African, Amerindian, and mixed origin, and they speak English, Guyanese Creole, or Amerindian languages. So neither is part of Latin America. French Guiana is a department of France. Like Haiti, they speak French, so they are part of Latin America, but not Hispanic America.

Actually, Hispanic is occasionally another part of the confusion. It doesn?t just mean Spanish, it means Spanish and Portuguese people, speech, and culture. So, again, ?Spanish-speaking countries? would not be a good substitute for Latin America.

Peter, as we became more involved in the work, also began to feel a whirlwind of emotions, anger, confusion, resentment, hurt and shame.

As time passed and we worked on their communication, forgiveness and reconnecting, Peter began to feel quite resentful and impatient that Robin seemed unable to forgive him faster. Both Robin and Peter had the tendency to blame the other for the affair as well as anything that they did not like in the relationship. It took much hard work for them to reach the place where they could truly hear each other without wanting to prove that their version of the truth was correct for all. Once this occurred the couple began to move towards re-connecting and the work of regaining trust within their relationship.

As they moved forward, Robin and Peter began to laugh with each other in my presence as well as report back to me that they were having fun together again and having ?hot? sex.

Juried Photography Exposition Seeking Entries | The Two River Times

Belmar ? The Belmar Arts Council (BAC) is looking for submissions to its Pattern in Nature Juried Photography Expos?ition. The show of original photographs is open to artists age 17 and older.

Entries may be brought to The Boatworks, Belmar Art Council?s headquarters, at 608 River Road from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 1, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.

The exhibition will be displayed from 1 to 5 p.m. Wed?nesdays through Sundays from June 9 through July 6. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. Enter?tainment and light refreshments will be provided. Awards will be presented at the opening reception.

Artists should note that all artwork must be original and not previously exhibited in a BAC show. Two pieces per artist may be entered. Acceptance is not guaranteed. Specifics regarding size, framing and other entry requirements can be obtained along with an entry form and complete details online at www.belmararts.org.

The entry fee is $10 per piece for BAC members or $15 per piece for nonmembers. Sales of work are encouraged but not required.

Dues, donations and grants fund the programs of the Belmar Arts Council. Three students have been named the top winners of the 2012 Student Essay Writing Contest, sponsored by the Faculty Association of Paradise Valley Community College.

?A Tribute to the Teaching-Learning Relationship,? celebrates the college?s core value of teaching and learning. During the spring semester of 2012, currently enrolled students of PVCC, as well as former PVCC students/alumni, were invited to submit a 750- to 1,000-word essay in which they celebrate an inspiring PVCC teacher-student learning relationship. A professional writer from outside the MCCCD community judged the entries.

Julie Mataway was awarded first place for her essay titled ?My Inspired Journey,? a tribute to Dr. Marianne Roccaforte, Counseling. Second place went to Tyler Gafke for his essay titled ?Instrumental Teachings,? a tribute to Dr. Casey Durandet, Physics. Third place was awarded to Marian Kamlin for her tribute to Jeanne Franco, CPA, Business, titled ?Meeting Challenges with Jeanne Franco.?

The excerpts below are from the essay submissions to see how students appreciate the excellence and commitment of PVCC faculty to educate, inspire, and help students succeed in college.

Professor Jeanne Franco

There are good professors, bad professors and mediocre professors. And then there are the great professors who make learning something special. Ms. Jeanne Franco is one of the great professors.? From the critical use of an excellent textbook, to focused lectures that encourage questions, to liberal use of Blackboard technology, to creative in-class problems for our groups to work on, to yet more creative computer applications for us to use in the Blackboard environment, Ms. Franco lets no opportunity to teach pass her by.? I now realize?how effectively a challenging course delivered with humor, credibility and openness can boost a student?s confidence and a student?s ability to learn the subject matter.

?[Professor]Franco taught her students much more than processing numbers and balancing accounts. She took time to explain the logic and reasons behind the guidelines and practices.? Even though a lot of the students were not in the Accounting major, she truly wanted them to be able to use the concepts in real-life situations.?After one-and-a-half semesters of taking Ms. Franco?s classes, I gained confidence in verbal communication, but furthermore, I was able to have more fun in my academic journey.

?ASTRONOMY

Professor Jennifer Weitz

[T]the most important thing that I noticed is that Professor Weitz made learning fun each day. It was easy to see that she too was having fun teaching.? She shows sincere empathy with her students, when it is warranted and without showing favoritism. She wants to see her students succeed.? She has been a wonderful mentor.? She is a caring and respected professor. Professor Weitz cares about making learning enjoyable and fun while covering the necessary topics for the class. She is eager and willing to answer even the most complex questions from students, with scientific explanations, in detail that students understand.

Dr. Marianne Roccaforte

Dr. Roccaforte is patient and kind, and I always leave her office inspired. I can truly say that because of her encouragement and direction I can now visualize myself doing something every day that I love. She has helped me believe that I have the ability to accomplish what I set my mind to do. Yet she does more?she helps me find the right tools and instructions on how to use them. It is hard to find the words to describe what an asset this wise, empathetic counselor and teacher is to me and my fellow students. It was as if she was put on this earth to inspire others. I am happy to have been in her path as she follows her destiny.

Because of Professor Roccaforte?s belief in my writing, I have not only continued to write, but I am now using my gift to encourage others who are going through difficult times. After putting my writing on hold for almost three years, I recaptured my zeal, which led me to a major that I am excited to pursue.

The long arm of the law finally caught up to Armin Christian.

The?convict, who escaped from a South Carolina prison facility on Christmas Day more than three decades ago, has been arrested in Rhode Island, where he apparently had been living a low-key life for years under an assumed name, authorities said Thursday.

The 65-year-old Christian, whose last name has also been spelled Christain, was taken into custody Wednesday as he left an apartment in Bristol, R.I., said?Rhode Island State Police Capt. Michael J. Winquist.

Upon seeing the cops, the fugitive apparently immediately realized?his three-decades-plus stint of freedom was coming to an abrupt end.

?As soon as we approached him he made a statement that he knew why we were there. He said?that he had planned to straighten the situation out by returning to South Carolina,? Winquist told msnbc.com.

Christian waived extradition and was being escorted back to South Carolina on Thursday.

Christian had been on the lam since Christmas Day 1980, when he escaped from the now-defunct Piedmont Work Center near Greenville, S.C. He was one month into an 11-month sentence for domestic non-payment of child support at the time.

His capture came after South Carolina corrections officials received a confidential tip that he was living in Rhode Island under an assumed name.

The tip led Rhode Island police this week to a multi-apartment residence in Bristol. Police conducted surveillance and arrested Christian as he emerged from the building Wednesday morning.

Winquist said the fugitive had been using the aliases ?Chris Christen? and "Chris Christian,? and had a Rhode Island driver?s license under one of those names. His 1980 ?Wanted? photo showed him with brown hair and a beard; when he was arrested he had a shaved head, mustache and glasses, Winquist said.

?He looked his age. He looked like a normal 65-year-old white male,? Winquist said. ?People in the neighborhood knew him under his alias name and had nothing but positive things to say about him.?

Christian lived alone and had been working as a handyman doing odd jobs in the Bristol area, police said. He reportedly told officers he lived in several states, including New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, before coming to Rhode Island in 1988.

There?s no evidence that he has committed any crimes in any state since his escape, Winquist said.

?Usually when someone escapes from a facility and has criminal background they end up coming into contact with some type of law enforcement. This person, I think it?s quite unusual that he led such a low profile for 32 years without having any new cases or new arrests from what we can tell,? the police captain said.

?Thirty-two years without being captured is pretty amazing.?
