Two UW Track Groups Excel In Washington and - - County 10

Split squads compete at Air Force and Washington

?LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 10, 2012) Two groups of University of Wyoming track and field student-athletes put their names in UW?s record book Friday, competing in two states.

?At Air Force Invitational

Freshman Samantha Kee was seventh in the 200-meter prelims at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a time of 25.07 seconds. She will run in the finals Saturday. In the same?event,?senior Chantel Bernabo was 17th, 25.66; and freshman Jolie DuBois was 26th, 26.11.

?Senior Lindsey Simmons was ninth in the 400, crossing the line with a time of 58.06. Sophomore Taylor Gardner also qualified for the finals in the same event, finishing 12th?with a time of 58.26. Junior Diana Long just missed qualifying, crossing the line in 13th?with a time of 58.33.

?Sophomore Emily Swigart was first in the 5,000-meter run with an altitude-converted time of 19:07.08.

The foursome of senior McKynzie Maher, junior Olivia Heaston, sophomore Kirsten McKen and junior Abi Bever won the distance medley relay with a time of 12:36.05. That time was 10th?on UW?s all-time top-10 list. Sophomore Jenna Mann was 19th?in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4 inches.

?Junior Brandon Douglass was fourth in the pole vault, 14-7 ?.

?Junior Tyler Gifford was sixth in the 5,000 on the men?s side with a time of 15:26.65 (altitude-converted time), and junior Tyler Skinner was 10th?in the high jump, 6-6 ?. Junior Lenyn Leonce was fourth in the long jump, 24-0 ?.

??We?re making some slow progress with some kids,? Wyoming coach Don Yentes said. ?They?ve got to keep working and keep their heads up. They did some nice things.

??The women in the 400 are getting there slowly but surely. We?ve got a lot of things going tomorrow and that?s actually good.?

?Action picks up Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Cadet Fieldhouse.

At Husky Classic

Freshman Holly Page was 17th?in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:08.29 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. That was third in UW?s all-time top-10 list.

?Sophomore Garrett Zans finished 14th?in his section of?the men?s?5,000-meter run with a time of 14:52.42. That time was good for ninth all-time in UW indoor history.

?Saturday?s action begins at 10 a.m. MT.
