For one night every year, a patch of Olympia basks in the glow of Hollywood. While the stars are strolling the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre in California, Olympia?s celebrities walk the red carpet at Capitol Theater.

ACADEMY AWARDS OSCAR PARTY

Who: Olympia Film Society

When: 4:30 p.m. Sunday you can walk the red carpet; 5 p.m. telecast of the Academy Awards ceremony

Where: Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. S.E., Olympia

This Sunday, the tradition continues when Olympia Film Society hosts its annual Academy Awards Oscar Party complete with paparazzi, fabulous frocks and genuine Oscar statues.

While Billy Crystal hists the real Academy Awards, local hosts Saul Tannenbaum and Mona Von Horne (also known as Josh Anderson and Christina Collins) will keep the Olympia crowd entertained with tunes, jokes and trivia. This year, the veteran hosts will include songs and skits, said Audrey Henley, OFS?s live events coordinator and theater manager.

Outside the theater, the red carpet will be laid for attendees. Entertainment ?reporters? from two local fashion stores will pepper party-goers with ?what are you wearing? and other Oscar-worthy journalism. Paparazzi will shoot video that will be projected straight onto the screen inside before the official broadcast begins.

?You actually get to be part of the show,? Henley-Davies said.

As in years past, glitterati can have their pictures made with two real Oscars. Both are on loan from Olympia resident Kathryn Ashe and were awarded to her grandfather Arthur Freed, a legendary Hollywood producer and lyricist behind some of the biggest hits in Hollywood?s Golden Era.

The event is open to all ages and admission includes hors d?oeuvres. Beer and wine will be for sale in the mezzanine. The ticket includes a chance to win a night out on the town for two, which includes movies at OFS, dinner at Swing Wine Bar and Cafe, and a night?s lodging at Fertile Ground Guesthouse.

Whether you attend the party or not, you?ll still have plenty of opportunities to see some Oscar-worthy films at Capitol Theater in the upcoming weeks. On the schedule (and some of their nominations) are: ?The Artist? (Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress, Director), ?Chico & Rita? (Animated Feature), ?My Week With Marilyn? (Actress, Supporting Actor), ?The Iron Lady? (Actress), ?A Separation? (Foreigh Language,) ?Hugo? (Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay), ?The Adventures of Tintin? (Original Score), ?Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close? (Best Picture).

?We definitely pay attention to Oscar-nominated films,? said OFS film programmer Helen Thornton.

The theater already has shown several films that have received the Academy?s nod, including ?The Tree of Life,? ?Beginners? and ?Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.? Thornton said she?ll add more during the coming weeks.
