New Delhi: After months of border tensions along the Line of Actual Control, the India-China Joint Mechanism on border issues will meet in Delhi on Tuesday for two days of talks. The meet comes days after the Indian government cleared a proposal to set up a new military unit to counter Chinese incursions at the India-China border.
This is the first time the Joint Mechanism includes representatives of the two armies besides diplomats and intelligence officers. India will raise the issue of border incursions at Chumar, North Sikkim and Bara Hoti and will give its views on the Chinese proposal for a border defence co-operation agreement.
This could include rejection of any Chinese proposal to curb India's infrastructure or troop build-up. China will most likely seek to maintain stability along the LAC and reiterate its claims on Indian territory in the north and east.
