Elizabeth S. (80) | Tuesday September 6, 2011, 5:00 am Murder is murder...anyway you slice it...people do not kill for food anymore...and I always thought Gods commandment "thou shalt not kill " was mandatory in all religions...we should extend Gods love to our animal friends of the world. Simon P. (84) | Tuesday September 6, 2011, 5:13 am Thanks Deb. Personally I don't care whether I am seen as anti-semetic or merely for what I am , that is anti-theist, and definitely anti anything that bespeaks of cruelty to animals, no matter what intellectual or mumbo jumbo justifications are given.. I find it hard to understand how a loving compassionate god would be appeased by sacrificing an innocent animal. It is after all 2011. You would think that the human race would have moved on from the primitive superstitions of appeasing gods. Apparently not. If these people wish to pay off their "god" then it would make more sense if they sacrificed something that would actually be a cost to themselves, rather that merely mirroring what happened in Mayan cultures, or voodoo and other primitive rites. I would suggest that large sums of money be burnt on "god's" altar. That would be a sacrifice. Will it happen?? No need to answer because chickens are cheaper. So much for "sacrifice " to god. Sylvie Bermannova (17) | Tuesday September 6, 2011, 6:59 am Thank you, Deb, for another thought-provoking article. I have signed the petition. Frankly, this practice is absolutely abhorring to me, even remindful of black magic, I daresay. Rejecting it as an unnecessary cruelty is unavoidable, and such is my stance in any instance of it, no matter by whom or for what it is resorted to. The fact that sacrifice of this sort has marked various rituals in human history does not make such a practice condonable, the less so in modern times. These people may follow the line of thought that when chickens are slaughtered for human consumption, why it should be objectionable when they are victimized as a form of sacrifice (...); unfortunately, the latter, because it is even more avoidable, is even more unjustifiable. I fail to understand how treading a path that is devoid of compassion toward other sentient beings and that leads to cruelty to them could ever make anyone a better person. How come that making use of a cruelty-free alternative that would serve the intended purpose and would be infinitely more opportune here is not deemed the only permissible and acceptable option? I demand an explanation for what kind of self-purification can lie in victimizing the innocent and how self-redemption can follow the act of killing an animal, which can easily be seen as sinful per se, because everything within me screams that it is quite the opposite that makes any sense! A violent act generates a negative energy, which only adds to the misery of the world and has a boomerang effect. It is good that people seek redemption, but the end does NOT justify the means. More space should be given to the good, which is a way of fighting the inferno (whatever it is represented by), which here may take the form of sparing the lives of these innocent animals as an offering made to a higher power, God or Nature, which is sure to smile with infinite joy upon receiving such a gift... The only teaching that is worth following is that of compassion. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Please try again later. ? |
june bullied (430) | Tuesday September 6, 2011, 7:16 am animal sacrifice is barbaric. get out of the dark ages, learn to respect, protect and cherish these precious creatures. sacrifice each other. animals have been tortured in history and still are today. they need all the help they can get. any religion that sacrifices animals is demonic. Deb Duxbury (121) | Tuesday September 6, 2011, 7:22 am Tania and All, When rational arguments are laid out in a logical manner devoid of hatred and limited in personal bias tainting the objective it is absolutely possible to discuss any topic without having a negative stigma attached. The term ?anti? implies hatred based on a closed-minded perspective and conclusion. However, one does not have to agree with a perspective to understand it when emotion is removed and facts are explored. Hatred, to my way of thinking, is a waste of energy. It pushes far too much negative energy into an already overcharged environment. The hope with an article such as this is to open more mental doors to allow people to explore counter perspectives rationally and take away newly found knowledge with the possibility of growth in perspective.

That part is very wrong,If any one needs to take a aniamls life (chicken) let it be done in honor and respect not just for blood and wasted. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Myron Scott (44) | Tuesday September 6, 2011, 11:11 am The outward forms of religion should be recognized, by those who adhere to them, as at most "fingers pointing at the moon" and subject to change.
